Dirt Cake- A Desert Treat
A dirt cake is a fairly popular dessert treat. It’s a hit with children. Kids love it because it resembles dirt. To kids it’s the height of a funny joke.
When kids eat real dirt instead of a dirt cake it can be cause for alarm. It could be a sign of mental retardation. It’s also dangerous. Parasites could be in the dirt. Dirt may also contain toxins. Many kids munch a little dirt. However, some children eat far too much. It could be caused by anemia. That is having an iron efficiency in the blood. Iron supplements can help.
Dirt cake isn’t really cake. It’s primarily cookies and pudding, with a few other things added. It can be served in a flower pot. And it can be served with a small shovel to further carry out the pretend game of eating dirt. Gummy worms complete the picture.
The Internet is full of dirt cake recipes. Perform a Google search. Over 420,000 sites result. Many of the recipes contain the same ingredients.
Smash up some Oreo cookies for the dirt cake. There is generally a layer of pudding, followed by a layer of cream, followed by a layer of cookie crumbs, followed by a layer of pudding, etc. The final layer of cookies is added at the end. Overall it’s a very clever desert.
Any dieter will be cheating if they eat dirt cake. It’s a combination of pudding, cookies, dessert topping, and other fattening ingredients. It has about 1000 calories, 100 grams of carbs and 50 grams of fat. People who are into reading labels will understand just how bad that is.
But healthy eating doesn’t preclude dirt cake. It’s all about moderation. Eat a very small piece. Or make sure everything else you eat is perfect. Diets are a matter of longer term. If your calories and nutrition are under control on a day to day basis, than once in awhile splurging isn’t out of the question.
Everyone loves dirt cake.
